I attend Stern and it has mostly been a positive experience! Since it's the city, the area can be dangerous. Stern courses are not easy and can be hard to manage. Most professors are excellent teachers and care about your success. However, NYU does not provide many benefits for commuting students like Metrocards or other stipends. Students already pay for tuition and books, so paying for a commute everyday can be taxing. On the note of traveling, NYU has great study abroad programs. I am excited to head to the University of Manchester as an exchange student next spring because of the IBEX program. The IBEX program is great because it allows me to study at a different school in a different country while still paying tuition for my home school. It gives me the freedom to learn under a different teaching style and live in a different country. One room for improvement would be that NYU study abroad programs should extend to the continent of Africa as well and not just Europe and Asia.

Studying abroad is easy, often costing as much or less than a standard semester! Many fantastic programs and a vibrant student body with so many different niches you can find. And if you're having a hard time, the emergency mental health services are pretty reliable.
That being said, the prices are pretty whack for a non-profit entity. Many admin are not willing to budge on pricing and you will be hurting if you don't get financial aid.
Final word: Research your program! The Social Work School often neglects its bachelor students, but prepares its masters students for therapy very well. Tandon is great for CompSci, but average for other engineering tracks. The the language programs are incredible, but be aware that many CAS programs are not as incredible as they would be elsewhere. (For example, PoliSci is good here, but it's even better at the less expensive George Mason University!)

NYU provides many resources for those with a lower income. One of the main reasons I decided to go here is because of the aid and support given to people of color like myself. In addition, the education itself is very fulfilling and informative. I learn a lot from the courses instead of just trying to “pass” the class. However, this school is predominantly white so it’s difficult to find people from your culture or racial background. The good news is that there are a lot of clubs and organizations that cater to specific cultures and ethnicities so you’re still able to connect to those who are familiar to you. If you have the chance to go to NYU, definitely go!
