School Overview
Georgia Perimeter College, locally referred to as “Georgia Perimeter” or GPC, is a unit of the University System of Georgia that offers two-year associate degrees and four-year bachelor’s degree programs. In May of 2011, Georgia Perimeter launched its first two bachelor’s degree programs: a Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sign Language Interpreting. Altogether, GPC offers over 40 programs at several campuses located in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Programs of study include Nursing, Education, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Dental Hygiene, Nursing, and Sign Language Interpreting.
Georgia Perimeter College was established in 1958 as DeKalb College by the Gabe County Board of Education. It opened its doors to the public and started offering courses in Clarkston, Georgia, in 1964. Its reach and influence grew as the college launched new campuses through the Atlanta metro area. The college’s name was changed from DeKalb College to Georgia Perimeter College in 1997.
The mission of Georgia Perimeter College in Decatur, Georgia, is to provide its students with an exceptional two-year higher education designed to prepare them for entry-level positions in a varity of health service, security and liberal arts career fields or to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university (although Georgia Perimeter now offers bachelor’s degrees). Georgia Perimeter also offers students a large variety of extracurricular activities to ensure students have a fun, enriching, well rounded college experience.
Whether you’re interested in focusing entirely on your education, getting involved in academic clubs, participating in an ethnic organization, or running for student government, Georgia Perimeter college is going to have something tailored to your unique tastes and desires. There are also regular activities, events and forums held on campus to ensure that there is never a dull moment for students.
The school offers an associate’s of art (A.A.) and associate’s of science (A.S.) degree in a variety of subject areas as well as career certification courses and programs designed to prepare students to launch a career in nursing, sign language interpretation, fire management and more.
To apply to Georgia Perimeter you’ll need to have maintained a mininum high school GPA of 2.0, graduated from high school or completed a GED program.
To be considered for financial aid (scholarships, grants, loans, etc.) you’ll need to complete the FAFSA application which can be accessed online.
